Virtualization

Server virtualization
Server virtualization provides the optimal use of hardware resources by consolidating the existing servers or using the new ones more efficiently, the quick implementation of new services by flexible allocation of hardware resources to virtual servers, the increased system stability and the easy achieving of high availability of services even in case of applications that can't work in a cluster.
Server virtualization opens doors to quick recovery in case of server malfunction and cheaper scenarios of recovery in case of catastrophe. It is significantly easier to perform further migration to new servers or data storage systems.
Virtualization means fewer servers to procure and maintain, less space required in server cabinets which use less power for cooling and need less electricity to run everything; it all leads to a more efficient and more economical system management.
Server virtualization is a foundation for Cloud computing

Desktop virtualization/ VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure)
Desktop virtualization is used to separate client operating system from client hardware, and the user keeps the same desktop independent from the device and the location of connection.
Desktop virtualization requires the use of server resources, and the client computer accessing virtual desktop becomes less important, so it can be replaced by a cheaper and more practical thin or zero clients, tablets, etc. User data thereby stay on the server infrastructure ensuring system security.

Destop virtualization allows:
  • centralised desktop management,
  • desktop consolidation and optimisation,
  • easier upgrading of client operating systems,
  • increased level of system security.
VDI solves the problem of diversity and lifetime of client computers in a company by allowing the use of new operating systems on older computers.
Desktop virtualization makes the computer much more available to end users, because in case of malfunction it is very simple to replace it with a new one without the need to reinstall the operating system and applications and to copy user data.
The choice of technology used for desktop virtualization VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) or presentation virtualization (remote desktop) depends on the needs and capacity.

Application virtualization
Application virtualization  is creating an encapsulated application which is executed in its "balloon" and there is no interaction with other applications on the system level.
Virtual application is not installed, but its package is distributed to client computers. Virtual applications are executed on client computer, and they can also be executed without network access.
Application virtualization solves the problem of simultaneous execution of mutually incompatible applications, accelerates and simplifies the distribution and installation of applications on user computers, accelerates application upgrading and desk deployment as well as computer replacement caused by a malfunction.

Business benefits of virtualization:
  • More cost efficient use of IT resources and energy
  • Business continuity ensured
  • Quick adjustment to new requirements
